As the football season gets closer and closer here is a small tid bit about the North Carolina basketball team’s schedule. The days and times for the match ups of this season’s ACC/Big10 Challenge have come out, and head coach Roy Williams’ team will be matched up against Indiana, who should be at the top of the rankings when the first poll comes out. The game, slated to be played on Tuesday, November 27th, with tip off time at 9:30 p.m. EST, will be the night cap on day one of the two day event between the conferences, and will be shown on the main ESPN channel. The night cap on day two will be the game between Ohio State and Duke, also to start 9:30 p.m. EST.
This will definitely be a tough game for the Tar Heels as they will face off against one of the top teams in the nation on their home court, Assembly Hall. As a matter of fact many believe that Indiana could be the team that cuts down the nets when it’s all said and done. It will also be interesting to see how the other teams for the ACC do in this tournament, as Yahoo! Sports wrote that the Big 10 would be the best conference in the land for the 2012-13 campaign. On the other hand the Atlantic Coast Conference ranks only fifth on this list, behind the Big East, the Big 12 and the SEC. The one other team that I am interested in seeing in this tournament is N.C. State, who will be up against Michigan, as the other game on ESPN on day one.
As usual the North Carolina basketball program does not back away from big out of conference games. This season the Tar Heels will see good competition at the Maui Invitational and will also get to play against Long Beach State and Texas on the road and UNLV at home besides their trip to Indiana. One thing that has to be said, with the team having lost four starters this season all this tough competition will be a good way to gel the squad together and be strong enough to navigate through the ACC schedule.
