The Oklahoma Sooners won a tight battle Wednesday evening in the Mabee Center, 63-62 over the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles.
Oral Roberts led by as many as 10 points late in the game, but the Sooners rallied to overcome the deficit behind freshman Buddy Hield’s sharp shooting. Heild finished the game with 11 points, all coming within the final 15 minutes of the game, and also grabbed six rebounds. For his efforts he is the Sooner Player of the Game.
Amath M’Baye led the Sooners with 12 points and nine rebounds. Romero Osby chipped in 11 points along with three boards and a block.
In the first half, Oklahoma was ice cold shooting, and went 0-4 from deep. The offense was stagnant, and ORU led into the break.
However, in the second half, the light clicked for the Sooners. They shot the ball a little bit better, especially in the final 10 minutes of the game, and came back to eventually take the lead.
Oklahoma was a mere 20% (2-10) from behind the arc tonight. They did however manage to outrebound the Golden Eagles 37-33.
Ultimately, it was depth that was the biggest factor. The Sooners bench scored 26 points compared to none from Oral Roberts.
Next up the Sooners will return home Friday after a hiatus, and will face Northwestern State. Tip off is at 7 PM CST.
