2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra continues to “respond well” to treatments after an abscess was drained on March 7.
The abscess developed on March 6, which was some 30 days after the champion had surgery to repair an abdominal tear do to complications from foaling a Bernardini filly in early February.
Veterinarians monitoring Rachel Alexandra’s recovery at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital near Lexington Ky. reported the mare’s appetite is “strong” and her “feistiness” is returning as she has been “acting up” on her daily 20-30 minutes walks.
Owner Stonestreet Farms also announced, barring any unforeseen issues, their next update would be Tuesday, March 26.
The foal is reportedly doing well with her nurse mare, who are also on the farm.
