On Sunday afternoon, the nation’s #2 ranked recruit, Jabrill Peppers (Paramus, New Jersey), committed to play his college football at the University of Michigan. Peppers chose Michigan over LSU, Penn State and Stanford. He is an elite athlete with explosive playmaking ability and he checks in at a sturdy 6-foot-1, 210 pounds. He will make an instant impact for the Wolverines in 2014.
Peppers is the 10th member of Michigan’s 2014 recruiting class and the highest ranked recruit to ever commit to the Wolverines. He grew up a fan of the Maize and Blue and has already gone on record saying he wants to be better than Charles Woodson. Peppers spent time with Denard Robinson on his visit to Michigan and came away very impressed with the family atmosphere and the overall culture of the Michigan program.
As a freshman, Peppers was named the national freshman of the year. As a sophomore in 2011, he was named the Air Force National Sophomore Of The Year and led Don Bosco Prep to a state championship and the mythical national championship. Prior to his junior season, Peppers transferred to Paramus Catholic. As a junior, Peppers rushed for 1,552 yards on 172 carries (9.02 ypc) with 18 touchdowns. He caught 20 passes for another 337 yards and five touchdowns. On defense, Peppers notched 70 tackles and three interceptions. He earned USA Today All-American honors and led his team to a New Jersey state championship.
Peppers is also a track star and has clocked blazing fast times in the 100 meter dash (10.2 seconds) and the 200 meter dash (20.79). In addition to all of his athletic prowess, Peppers is a talented musician.
Peppers was highlighted in the July 9, 2012 Sports Illustrated as one of eight future game changers. Here’s what his coach, Chris Partridge, had to say about him in the magazine.
He’s a natural leader, a great athlete…but as talented as he is, he’s even more dynamic off the field. He’s a principal’s list student, he has a tremendous work ethic and he’s got a good heart.
