Jason Kipnis has been proving why he is a fan favorite in Cleveland. The star second baseman is, as he calls it, “en fuego” and the Cleveland faithful is loving it.
Sunday afternoon, Kipnis went 3-4 with two doubles and a walk in the 5-3 loss for the Tribe. Kipnis has been on fire in the month of June where the Tribe have played 20 games. Kip has hit .400 (28-70) with 15 RBIs and 8 runs. He also extended his on base streak to 25 games.
To prove that he is for real, Kip has been taking left handed pitchers the opposite way all month long. Kip has been adding to his season stats which are sitting pretty at .283 with 9 HRs, 41 RBIs, 35 runs, and 17 steals in 65 games.
Kip isn’t the only hot topic in Cleveland. It’s been a big summer for the Rock n’ Roll Capital of The World. Two separate movies are being filmed downtown, Captain America, and of course, an awesome sports movie entitled “Draft Day” starring Kevin Costner as the Cleveland Browns General Manager. Costner, made his public Cleveland debut at today’s game where he threw out the ceremonial first pitch to Nick Swisher after taking a Batting Practice session with some of the team.
Costner hit several line drives into the outfield as he batted right handed during the batting practice session. Costner said he loves the Tribe, has attended three or four games, and is positive that the Tribe will make a run on Detroit.
Costner isn’t the only person who is bullish about the Tribe. The Cleveland Pain Dealer’s Terry Pluto reminds us that “I doubt anyone would have thought they’d be above .500. Or that the Tribe would be 38-36 and carrying a streak of eight victories in their past 11 games”. True, not many people stay positive when it comes to Cleveland sports, but after the track record, who can blame them?
The Indians are set to take on the Orioles in Baltimore for a four game series.
