Michigan Football recruiting is on, perhaps, it’s biggest roll since the inception of recruiting services and rankings. The Wolverines currently hold down the top spot on ESPN’s 2014 rankings, they’re 5th on scout.com and ranked 7th at rivals.com. Michigan reeled in the nation’s top running back, Derrick Green, in the 2013 class and he is on campus now preparing for the upcoming season. The highly touted 2014 class includes a commitment from the nation’s #2 ranked player, Jabrill Peppers, and Michigan is in contention for 3 other Top 10 recruits.
6-foot-5, 250 pound defensive end, Da’Shawn Hand is ranked #1 overall in the 2013 class by rivals.com and #4 by ESPN. He was long considered to be favoring Michigan and Virginia Tech. That is until recently when he dropped the Hokies because they don’t offer the right academics for him. Hand was blown away on his visit to Michigan, a visit that included a presentation by Sports Management professor Mark Rosentraub. “That guy was blowing us away,” Hand told The Detroit News. “The things he was talking about — I just wanted to sit there in the class. Man! Oh my goodness, I just want to listen to him. He is a good guy to be around. To hear him talk was really amazing. He knew his stuff. The coolest thing was when you walk in he has a bunch of hats from different professional teams, and all those teams are teams that he has helped build their stadiums and stuff. It was cool.”
Hand’s new top three schools are Michigan, Alabama and Florida.
Michigan is in Adoree Jackson’s Top 10. Jackson is ranked #5 overall by ESPN and if he commits to Michigan would give the Wolverines the top two cornerbacks in the 2013 class, Jabrill Peppers is the nation’s top ranked corner. Jackson’s teammate, 3-star linebacker Dwight Williams is also considering Michigan and the two could be a package deal.
Parrker Westphal and Juju Smith
Michigan is also in a strong position with two other elite defensive backs; Parrker Westphal (Bolingbrook, Illinois) and John “Juju” Smith (Long Beach, California). Westphal is ranked the #91 overall prospect by ESPN. Smith is ranked #49 by rivals and #60 by ESPN. Both Westphal and Smith play cornerback, although Westphal could play safety at the college level.
Dickerson is considered one of the top tight end prospects in the country, but most schools are projecting him on the defensive side of the ball. He is a tremendous athlete and last week, he narrowed his list down to three schools; Michigan, Stanford and Northwestern.

Jon Runyan Jr
UPDATED: Jon Runyan Jr has committed to play for Michigan. Class of 2015 prospect Jon Runyan Jr received a Michigan offer this week. He is of course the son of former Michigan great and current US Senator, Jon Runyan. He was one of three players to earn an offer at Michigan’s Camp last week. Two 2014 recruits, Freddy Canteen and Brandon Watson also received offers. Canteen and Watson are high school teammates at Eastern Christian Academy (Elkton, Maryland).
4-star offensive tackle Jamarco Jones will announce his commitment on Thursday (6/27). His final three schools are Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State.
