Michigan State got another shooting guard they wanted, Javon Bess, a 6’5 shooting guard out of Ohio decided to commit to the Spartans today. Bess wasn’t a very highly regarded recruit star wise, he is a three star according to most recruiting services, but Trey Burke was overshadowed as a three star recruit by Jared Sullinger, who played on the same high school team as him. Trey Burke turned out to be one of the best players in the country.
Bess has been overshadowed by his teammate, Sean Tate. Tate is highly regarded. Bess is known as a versatile wing player who can drive and shoot, he also can handle the ball and could be used as a “point forward” type player if needed. Bess had interest from Wisconsin, Michigan, and Indiana, and offers from Kansas State and Dayton. Michigan State seemed to be a step ahead of those teams in getting Bess’s interest.
Bess was in attendance for Michigan State’s Midnight Madness on Friday, and he clearly fell in love with MSU. MSU was his first big offer. MSU has had success in the past with low rated recruits. Draymond Green, Maurice Ager, and Travis Trice were all three star players who have had success at Michigan State. Javon Bess will look to follow in those players footsteps.
