The New York Giants are now (2-6) on the season, and have won two games in a row. They now go into a much-needed bye week as they prepare for their second half of the season.
The Giants have an opportunity to resolve some of the issues with the team and allow some players to recover from injuries during the bye.
Looking ahead at the rest of the schedule for the Giants, the question on everyone’s mind is, can they put together a winning streak and get back in the race?
The first game after the bye week for the Giants is the Oakland Raiders (3-4) at MetLife stadium. The Raiders have a really good defense ranked 6th against the run and 16th against the pass. The Raiders are good at getting after the quarterback; they have 21 sacks on the season, which is tied for 14th in the NFL.
On offense their running game is ranked 5th in the league, and Terrelle Pryor is half of the running game for the Raiders. Pryor is a mobile quarterback who gives pass rushers a tough time. Also, Darren McFadden is having a good season and is finally staying healthy.
On the bright side for New York, Oakland has the worst passing offense in the league.
After the Giants play Oakland they face the 5-2 Green Bay Packers. The Packers have one of the best offenses in the league, and are playoff contenders. The weak point for the Packers is their pass defense, but they do a good job at pressuring the quarterback with 23 sacks as a team. The Giants are going to have their hands full when they play the Packers in three weeks.
These next two games will decide if the Giants get back in the playoff hunt, or if it is time to look to the draft. The Giants are only two games out of first place right now. Dallas had the chance to put distance in the standings, but lost to Detroit. If the Giants win against Oakland and Green Bay and can stay within a game or two, then they are in the hunt. If they lose these to games, they lose all hopes of the playoffs, and fans can start talking about potential draft picks.
