This Sunday at 4:05 PM ET the Philadelphia Eagles (3-5) are traveling to California again to play another AFC West team, the Oakland Raiders (3-4). This season clearly has been a story of quarterback health for the Eagles.
Last week, coach Chip Kelly made the decision to play Michael Vick just because they were playing the New York Giants and Vick injured his hamstring.
In my opinion, he wasn’t healthy enough to start but since backup QB Nick Foles was out with a concussion they weren’t going to start QB Matt Barkley so they put Vick in. He was injured in the 2nd quarter and they were forced to put Barkley in anyway.
Now that Vick isn’t healthy…they’re going to start Nick Foles and now he holds the Eagles’ destiny in his hands. But he’s not the only one that takes a great part in the team’s success. The poor offensive line is a mess, point blank period. Thus, quarterbacks can’t stay healthy because they’re always running for their life, trying to avoid getting rocked.
Therefore, the team is unbalanced and inconsistent and has a problem scoring. The run game is slacking now and if they don’t have a running offense they’ll have keep having only 200 or so yards of offense a game. There has to be balance and if they don’t have balance they’ll be a predictable team. The defense isn’t the problem in these games, it’s the offense.
It’s really nothing much to say besides that this offense is terrible. If you think about it, the offense hasn’t even scored a touchdown in the last two weeks. The only reason the Eagles weren’t handed a goose egg by the New York Giants is because the defense recovered a fumble.
Nevertheless, the Eagles’ season isn’t doomed. The NFC East is very feasible because the Dallas Cowboys aren’t dominating the division. Chip Kelly needs to try to mend this offense together that’s all that can be said. The team is inconsistent and the coaches have had troubles with keeping a quarterback healthy.
We can only hope that Foles gets better and can dominate the Raiders like he did Tampa Bay, but that was Tampa…but it doesn’t matter the Eagles season is salvageable it just seems that they’ve hit a huge bump in the road.
