The New York Giants are (2-6) on the season, and they are currently on a bye week. The New York Giants have eight more games left in the season and are currently two games behind Dallas in the division. The Giants season has been a disappointment to say the least. They started the season by losing six games in a row and everyone was ready to right them off with a losing season. Things have gone bad for the team all around and now at the halfway point of the season they won two games in a row and are building momentum going forward.
The Giants offensive line injuries have been the team’s greatest problem and weakness. With a depleted offensive line the Giants have seen their running game struggle and Eli Manning has also been under tremendous pressure in the passing game. The Giants running game is the worst in the league and they league the league in turnovers. Eli Manning has been the cost of most of the turnovers with 15 interceptions. Eli Manning has had his worst year of his career so far, but he hasn’t throw an interceptions in his last two games. For the Giants to turn their season around Eli Manning has to limit the turnovers in order to save the teams season.
The defense has also been struggling with injuries and poor performances since the start of the season. The pass rush has been missing all season, and the secondary has been struggling as well. The Giants have to deal with Jason Pierre-Paul not being as effective as he used to be. The are 30th in the league with sacks which is very uncharacteristic of a New York Giants team. A bright spot for the Giants is linebacker Jon Beason. Beason has been a invaluable to the Giants, and as a result the defense has improved with his presence.
The only consistent player for the Giants is Victor Cruz with 47 receptions, 677 yard, and four touchdowns. This is one of the few bright spots for the Giants so far this season. Also Ruben Randle has also been having a good year, in his second year in the NFL. Also signing Brandon Jacobs and Peyton Hillis seems to have given the running game a little boost these last few games.
As the Giants prepare to come back from the bye week, they will face the Oakland Raiders at home. It will the first of three straight home games for the Giants. After Oakland will be Green Bay, and then they will face Dallas. These three games are must wins for the Giants. If they lose all three games then they will be officially out of playoff contention.
