Kevin Pangos: A
Pangos looked sharp tonight as he stepped up and hit some big shots in a close game. Pangos ended the game with 21 points, 5 of 9 from the three-point line. I predict by the end of the year that Pangos will be the go-to-guy for the Zags, and he made strides tonight. He hit a big three with about 7 minutes left when Gonzaga was only up 8. Then with 2 and a half minutes left and Gonzaga up 12, Pangos hit another three that was the dagger. He was the best player on the court tonight and for that I give him an A.
Gary Bell Jr.: B+
Bell continued his consistent play to start the season with another solid game. Gary was 5 of 8 from the field, finishing with
14 points. Bell only shot 50 percent from three, which from his season average of 65 percent is a little low. But all jokes aside Bell was solid tonight, although he did have 4 personal fouls, which made him, spend sometime on the bench. He has been more aggressive on the season thus far, and was again tonight but I think he is still passing up open shots. Bell is a very good shooter and can make some plays in the lane, Bell in my opinion should be shooting the ball at least 10 times a game.
David Stockton: B
Stockton was pretty non-existence tonight. He had 5 points on 1 of 3 shooting, with 5 assists. He had a few uncharacteristic turnovers, but ran the offense pretty well. Stockton has started every game thus far this season, but I would expect Coleman to become the starter by season’s end. Oakland played a lot of zone tonight, which favors Stockton over Coleman. Stockton is a very solid backup point guard and I think he is better used off the bench.
Sam Dower Jr.: A
Dower Jr. has really impressed me thus far this season. He has looked in better shape, more athletic and overall improved.
Dower Jr. had 15 points tonight and continues to be the driving force inside. He also had a few big dunks, which got the crowd going, and some nice blocks. He only finished with 5 rebounds, which is his lowest season total thus far, but other than that Dower Jr. played well tonight.
Przemek Karnowski.: C+
Karnowski continues to make crucial mistakes, which could cost the Zags in future games. Ryan Edwards is still out for Gonzaga, and with Barham being more of a guard than a forward, Karnowski and Dower Jr. is all they got down low. He did mange to have 12 points on 5 of 7 shooting, but had 4 fouls and 4 turnovers. Karnowski cannot keep making the same mistakes, especially with the lack of depth down low. He continues to commit dumb fouls, and turning the ball over. He shows flashes like when he made a nice fake to his right and little turn around jumper, but his bad plays are out weighing his good plays thus far. Hopefully he will improve on this because if not, Gonzaga will be very thin down low.
Gerard Coleman: B
Oakland came out in a Zone, which kind of takes him out of the game being that he is not a great shooter. He only played 14
minutes tonight and had a few nice moves, especially a coast-to-coast layup. Coleman is very dangerous in the open court, but his lack of shooting hurts when the Zags face a zone. I still think Coleman is adjusting to the offense and trying to get accustomed to the style of play, but he is very talented, athletic and very fun to watch.
Kyle Dranginis: B-
Dranginis did not do a whole lot tonight, in a good or bad way. He only had 2 points but did manage to have 5 assists. Dranginis was not as aggressive as he had been in the last few games. I think he can really contribute to this team off the bench if he plays aggressively and hit opens shots.
Drew Barham: B+
Barham is on the court the shoot three’s. He is going to have to guard players down low because of the depth concerns, and
hit his open shots. He did that tonight shooting 3 of 5 from behind the arc. If Barham can be shoot the three consistently he is going to stretch the floor for the bulldogs which will really help the team.
