The New York Jets lost back to back games for the first time in the 2013 season after a 19-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
Geno Smith and the Jets’ offense was anemic on Sunday having as many points (3) as turnovers. Geno Smith completed 9 passes making it back to back games with less then 10 completions. Smith was 9 of 22 for 127 yards two interceptions and a fumble. Smith was sacked another three times and had a QBR of just 3.1.
Smith isn’t the only reason for the Jets horrific performance on offense. The Jets only rushed for 102 yards and were 1 for 12 on third down. The Jets tried to implement the wildcat offense as a big part of the game plan this week but failed to help the offense create explosive plays.
The Jets’ offense is beginning to prove that it doesn’t have enough firepower to help this team make the playoffs. With the struggles continuing to mount on offense, Rex Ryan will now be faced with the challenge of deciding to bench his rookie quarterback and try to make the playoffs or to stay with the rookie and hope the Jets can rebound from these two looses. Both of Smith’s interceptions were in Ravens territory halting drives and killing momentum on offense.
The defense didn’t play fantastic, but again was put in tough positions due to turnovers. The Jets’ defense recorded four sacks and besides getting beat on 66-yard touchdown catch, forced four field goals. Gang green’s defense has showed up all season but haven’t been able to make up for the offense’s terrible performances the last two weeks.
With a loss on Sunday the Jets fell out of the last playoff spot in the AFC. With a lot of teams bunched up fighting for the 6 spot, the Jets will have to defeat the Miami Dolphins this week if they want to have a chance to make the playoffs this season. A loss on Sunday could be the first step towards firing head coach Rex Ryan. Interesting to see who Ryan will go with at quarterback since Sunday might seal his fate with the Jets organization.
