The loss for the Steelers hurt them greatly when it comes to making the playoffs, but speaking of losses and hurting, the injuries have made their way back into the Steelers’ season.
The Steelers caught the injury bug during their game against Baltimore, starting with the offensive line.
The Steelers’ offensive line has really started to put it together, by Steelers’ o-line terms that is. In reality, this means simply that Ben Roethlisberger hasn’t been on his back all four quarters these last couple games. However, in their loss to Baltimore, the losses also came on the offensive line. Left guard Kelvin Beachum, right guard David DeCastro, center Fernando Velasco and tackle Mike Adams all went down with injuries.
While the players are still being evaluated to assess the extremity of the injuries, it would appear the Beachum went down with a knee injury. Velasco was seen walking around in a boot prior to the game. Adams was brought into replace Beachum who also got injured and was replaced. Beachum is the backup center to Velasco so with both of them out, enter Cody Wallace. Adams went out with an injury which brought in Guy Whimper.
It’s a mess of a situation on the o-line to say the least.
Another player that suffered an injury was defensive lineman, Brett Keisel. Keisel had been battling a foot injury and was returning to action against Baltimore for the first time in weeks. He left in the first quarter after reagrivating that same injury.
Another key injury that occurred was to rookie running back Le’Veon Bell. Bell was hit hard on the Steelers’ final push to get into the end zone when a big-time hit caused Bell’s helmet to fly off. Bell laid motionless on the field for quite some time before he was able to get to his feet and be assisted to the locker room. Head coach Mike Tomlin stated after the game the Bell suffered a concussion.
The Steelers have placed Velasco on injury reserve. They’ve signed center, Eric Olsen to add depth. Wallace is expected to take over duties at the center position for now.
A crucial loss and crucial losses across the board for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite winning three in a row, one bad game may have changed everything for this team.
