The New York Giants at (5-9) will visit the Detroit Lions (7-7) this Sunday, and Detroit will be looking to win and keep their playoff hopes alive. The Detroit Lions are one game behind the Chicago Bears in the NFC North and need to win out in order to have a chance to make the playoffs. The Giants will not be playing for anything after having secured a losing season in last weeks lost to the Seattle Seahawks, and its their first losing season since 2004.
The Detroit Lions have lost four of their last five games, Matthew Stafford has been struggling , and the lions have been plagued with injuries throughout the season, but this game is an opportunity for them to fix everything and gain some momentum with a win. The Giants defense still struggles to pressure the quarterback, and is now without cornerback Corey Webster for the rest of the season, along with other injuries on the defensive end. Detroit is deep in offensive weapons, and it is tough for teams to contain Calvin Johnson, and Reggie Bush causes a lot of miss matches at the running back position.
As for the New York Giants offense and Eli Manning, they should have a better game against the Detroit Lions, but they will have some struggles in the passing game. The Giants announced the Victor Cruz will not play in this game with a concussion and a sprained knee. Unfortunately Cruz’s season will end and he will be two yards short of his third straight 1,000 yard season.
The Lions have the fourth ranked rushing defense, and the Giants have the worst rushing game in the NFL. There will be more passing plays called, and without the Giants number one receiver, the pressure falls on Ruben Randle and a struggling Hakeem Nicks to make plays. Excpect Eli Manning’s struggles to continue, but don’t expect another five interception game. The Lions will get pressure on Manning, and will force him to make mistakes.
Unfortunately for the New York Giants this game will be another loss, but on the bright side every loss means your draft position improves. Right now the Giants would have the 11th pick in the NFL draft, if the season ended today, but it the season is not over yet. The Detroit Lions win this game because they have the stronger offense, and they still have a chance at the playoffs. This game even has a chance to be a blowout for the Detroit Lions. The Detroit Lions win this game 35-24 when it’s all over.
