The Atlanta Falcons have officially shocked the National Football League today, as they have claimed the number two seed in the NFC. This seed will give them a first-round bye. The Falcons came into the season looking like they were not going to make much noise in the league, but they certainly made a lot. Matt Ryan stepped up in a major way for the team by leasing the offense. He put up some big numbers and broke his career single-season passing record today against the New Orleans Saints, who they defeated by a score of 38-32. The Falcons will now head into the playoffs coming off of a nice win.
The team will get some much-needed rest next week after a long season. This will be great for guys like Devonta Freeman, Tevin Coleman and Julio Jones. This will give them the opportunity to rest their legs and make them fresh for their next game. These offensive stars are going to have to be great in order for the Falcons to advance to the next round.
Unfortunately during Sunday’s action Vic Beasley injured his shoulder. The team seems to think that he will be okay for the playoffs, but there is obvious cause for concern since he is the Falcons’ best defensive player. Hopefully the next week off will give him a good opportunity to recover and be 100% ready for their next game.
The Falcons are in a very good spot now. They will have home-field advantage in their first playoff game, which is huge for them. If the Dallas Cowboys somehow lose they will then have home field if they win their first game. The Falcons looked great after todays win so spirits will be high. The Falcons have two major assets going into their next game: rest and momentum.
