Real Madrid has been dealt the toughest team in this year’s Champions League quarter-final. Real Madrid will face FC Bayern Munich in a quarter-final for the ages. They are both the top two teams in their leagues and they are the heavy favorites to win the tournament. The quarter-final was always going to be a tough matchup but this is probably the team that Real Madrid least wanted. FC Bayern Munich is probably the most complete team in all Europe. The other thing that will make it difficult for Real Madrid is their congested schedule in the month of April.
The month of April will say everything about Real Madrid. They could be the unbeatable team we all think they are, which is the best in Europe, or the inconsistent team we have seen in the last couple of years. Real Madrid is always believed to be able to win their league title and the Champions League in the same year, but they have failed to do so. They either disappoint in one of them or in both. April will be a tough task for their Champions League title hopes and their La Liga title.
In a span of three weeks, Real Madrid will have to face Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich twice and FC Barcelona. For this reason, the month of April will tell us how good Real Madrid really is. FC Bayern Munich is arguably the most well-rounded team in the world because they are a very good attacking team and defensive team. FC Bayern Munich has scored 60 goals in the Bundesliga and they have only conceded 13 goals which are the least amount conceded by any team in Europe’s top four leagues. They have one of the best goal-scorers in the world with Robert Lewandowski, who has 21 league goals and he has a supporting cast of great attacking players like Arjen Robben, Thomas Muller, Kingsley Coman and Douglas Costa.
Before their first Bayern Munich game, Real will have to face Atletico Madrid in a La Liga game which will be a huge test. Most see Atletico as the third best team in Spain and they will not give Real Madrid an easy game. Real Madrid needs to beat them to continue first place in the La Liga table. Games against Atletico are always draining physically and emotionally, so Real will likely be very tired after that game and will have to play Bayern with only three or four days of rest. These are two very tough games. There will be no time for rest. They will face a similar problem, the second time they play against Bayern Munich because the game after that one is against FC Barcelona.
If they are able to beat Barcelona and Atletico Madrid they will be sure favorites for the league title. If Real Madrid also advances to the Champions League semi-final they will prove they are the strongest team in Europe. Real Madrid is the deepest team in Europe. If a team can survive this gauntlet it is them. Before April challenges begin Real Madrid needs to continue their good form with a La Liga game against Athletic Bilbao.
