Today, Chelsea FC visited Vitality Stadium to play against AFC Bournemouth in the 32nd round of the English Premier League. Chelsea defeated Bournemouth (3-1) with goals from Eden Hazard, Marco Alonso, Adam Smith (own goal), and Joshua King.
In the 17th minute, Adam Smith unluckily deflected a shot from Diego Costa into his own goal, giving Chelsea an early (1-0) lead. Three minutes after the first goal, Eden Hazard doubled Chelsea’s lead with a great pass from Kante. Before half time, Bournemouth pulled one back with a goal from Joshua King.
In the second half, Spanish defender Marco Alonso scored in the 68th minute from an amazing free kick to solidify Chelsea’s lead. Chelsea throughout the whole game seemed to be in control and not really in danger of losing the match. The London club got lucky with an own goal in the first 17 minutes, but Eden Hazard and Marco Alonso granted Chelsea’s win with their goals.
Chelsea is once again seven points ahead at the top position of the English Premier League. Tottenham Hotspur won (4-0) against Watford and cut the gap between them and Chelsea to four points. Chelsea really needed this win, and they got the job done.
Diego Costa has been in a scoreless run of the last four games in the Premier League. The Spanish International has never gone four games in a row without scoring. However, he has been very important for the team throughout the entire season. Costa has 17 goals to his name, an impressive mark for a striker.
Eden Hazard has been playing the goal scoring role for Diego Costa in the last few games. The Belgian midfielder has 14 goals and five assists throughout the 2016-17 Premier League. In the last four games, Eden Hazard has scored three out of the eight goals Chelsea has made in the last four games.
The most impressive player this season besides Eden Hazard has to be N’Golo Kante. The 26 year old French International has been controlling Chelsea’s midfield throughout the entire season. Even though he is not much of a goal scorer and a play maker, he does have an enormous effect on Chelsea’s midfield. He averages an 88.7% pass success rate, he has won 138 possessions in the midfield, and he makes 2.3 successful tackles per match. These stats only represent a part of want Kante does in the midfield, but the young Frenchman is a noticeable and pivotal key player in Chelsea’s midfield.
Next week, Chelsea visits Old Trafford to play against Manchester United in the 33rd round of the English Premier League. The last time these two teams faced each other was in the Quarter-Finals of the FA Cup, which Chelsea won (1-0) with a goal from N’Golo Kante. Manchester United has not been able to beat Chelsea FC since October of 2012. Chelsea needs to win this game to keep a steady lead in the Premier League. The London club has a tough month ahead of them, and they need to give it their all.
