The U.S. men’s national team is hanging on by a thread. The U.S. may not qualify for CONCACAF in Russia in 2018.
Trouble with the U.S. men’s national team
The U.S. men’s national team is in a must win situation after losing to Mexico and Costa Rica. They must win the next two games against Honduras and Panama to qualify for Russia in 2018.
The U.S. men’s national team has always qualified for the World Cup. But now the U.S. finds itself on the verge of being disqualified. After the disappointing 4- 0 blow out to Costa Rica, Coach Jurgen Klinsman was fired as the U.S. coach and Bruce Arena was brought in.
Added to a horrible situation, goalkeeper Tim Howard made comments that ruffled a few feathers. He questioned the commitment of the dual-national players for the U.S..
German-born midfielder Jermaine Jones called Howard’s comments “dangerous stuff.”
The trouble with U.S. Soccer
How many coaches will the U.S. go through before they finally stick with one? The answer to that question should be one. The process of making a consistent winner is not an easy one. Things take time. If Jurgen Klinsman was given time to finish what he started, I’m sure the U.S. would’ve become consistent winners. Now Bruce Arena has come into a situation where he must try to start his own system, after Klinsman just replaced another for his. He has been given the ridiculous task of immediate results or else. So if Arena can’t fix the U.S. team within a few games will U.S. soccer get rid of him? They probably will. If the U.S. keeps firing their coaches, the American soccer team will never win a World Cup. The U.S. needs to stay with one coach and believe in their ability to create a great team.
A team can’t succeed without a great leader and the coach is supposed to be that leader
Why hasn’t the U.S. men’s soccer team won a World cup? Maybe that is because soccer isn’t the United States past time, like baseball once was. All over the world, soccer (futbol) is almost like a religion. Only in recent years has the United States caught up with the rest of the world with the love of futbol or soccer. Even now baseball is losing ratings, and isn’t America’s past time anymore. And because the love of soccer is just starting to grow, their is not a great pool of talent to choose from. Even though the U.S. players now are incredibly talented.
