Chelsea F.C. are tearing through the Premier League this year under new manager Antonio Conte. The Blues are currently seven points ahead of second-place Tottenham Hotspur with seven games left in the Premier League season. Chelsea also have a shot at the F.A. Cup, as they play Tottenham in the semi-finals in a couple of weeks.
So, which player is the most valuable to Chelsea, and which player has contributed the most to their soon to be title winning season?
There are a few candidates to be claimed the most valuable players for Chelsea, but we start off with the Blues top goal scorer this season, Diego Costa. Costa has 17 goals this year in the Premier League for Chelsea, and has been one of the focal points in the front three for Chelsea. Every year we see Costa get in some scuffles with opposition players, but this year it seems Diego Costa has nearly eliminated that from his game. This may be due to Antonio Conte coming in and trying to cut that side out of his game, but for whatever reason, he has stopped his antics, and it has helped him. Costa looks more focused during games, which has helped prevent distractions to him and Chelsea that we have seen in previous seasons. Costa might not be the most skillful, technical, or Chelsea’s smartest player, but he is a great finisher, and is such a strong presence up top for Chelsea.
Chelsea’s left winger, Eden Hazard, has had a great season after his diabolical 2015-2016 season with Chelsea. Hazard has even been named one of the favorites to win the Premier League Player of the Season. Hazard has contributed an astonishing 14 goals and 5 assists from the wing. Hazard is the main focal point of Chelsea’s attack as he has scored an average rating of 7.92 in 29 Premier League games, that is the highest rating in the League. Hazard is contributing to almost 30 percent of all of Chelsea’s goals in the Premier League this season. There is no question that Hazard should be considered a candidate to be the Player of the Season in the Premier League, as he leads Chelsea and the League in so many attacking stats.
The man who does the dirty work, who cleans up in the midfield, and has been the signing of the season, N’Golo Kanté, is the best box to box midfielder in the Premier League, and maybe in all of football. You can go through all of his amazing stats, like how he has the most tackles for Chelsea and the most interceptions, but all you have to do is watch Kanté in a game. He covers so much of the pitch that his teammates have said at some points they thought there was two of him. Kanté also has one of the highest win percentages in the history of the Premier League, as he was the key to Leicester’s title winning season last year, and he looks to be the key to Chelsea’s title winning season this year.
All of Chelsea’s starting eleven have stepped it up this year as they get huge contributions not just from Costa, Hazard, and Kanté, but also from Marcos Alonso, Victor Moses, David Luiz, César Azpilicueta, Thibaut Courtois, Pedro, and Nemanja Matić. Chelsea have had some great performers this year from some unlikely players, but players like Costa, Hazard, and Kanté have been the best for Chelsea this season, and the best in the Premier League.
