The first domino has fallen in what usually is the first of many moves the Oakland Athletics are expected to make this season. Relief pitchers Ryan Madson and Sean Doolittle have been sent to the Washington Nationals in a five person trade. In the return, the Oakland A’s received relief pitcher Blake Treinen, left handed pitcher Jesus Luzardo, and third baseman Sheldon Neuse.
Blake Treinen ownes a shaky 5.73 ERA this season in 37 appearances. He does have a career 3.39 ERA in his 4 seasons as a Nationals relief pitcher. He will most likely be in the Oakland Athletics bullpen when introduced to the team this year.
The meat of this trade comes with what Billy Beane is most known for receiving and sending away. Prospects Jesus Luzardo and Sheldon Neuse are both very young talent that are showing promise in the minors. Jesus Luzardo was a third round draft pick in the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft by the Washington Nationals. He has a 1.32 ERA in three games of rookie ball this year. He averages around 9.9 strike outs per nine innings which is a promising sight. He is just starting out and I am sure he will strive in an Oakland Athletics organization that is known for their prospects.
Sheldon Neuse was drafted in the second round of the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft. He is in his second year of Single-A ball and he is batting .291 this year. He has shown some improvement since last year and he could be a nice surprise for the Oakland A’s
