As Major League Baseball gears up for a wild and unpredictable second half of the season, the Los Angeles Dodgers are poised to make a strong second half run. From top to bottom, the Dodgers have one of the best rosters in the game, and there are even more ways for them to improve for the second half. Here are three bold predictions for the Dodgers in the second half of an already successful season.
The Los Angeles Dodgers win the NL West with a 96-66 record
For the majority of the first half, the Dodgers had stiff competition within their own division, as the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks were having unexpectedly great seasons. However, both competitors have slipped quite a bit and now sit over ten games back in the division. It would take quite a dominant run from either team to catch up to the Dodgers at this point.
As of July 18, the Dodgers sit atop the NL West with a 64-29 record, which is the best record in baseball. No one at the moment is seeing any form of slump or slowing down from the powerhouse, so expect to see this type of dominance continue, barring any injuries or setbacks.
The Los Angeles Dodgers acquire RHP Zach Britton from the Baltimore Orioles
A contending team can never have enough bullpen help. Although the Dodgers bullpen is a strong part of the team, no one on the Dodgers would mind if reliever Zach Britton comes over to the west coast. Britton has put up historic numbers over the past few seasons, and would become a great set-up man for Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen.
Jansen has already expressed his desire for a Zach Britton trade and has urged the front office to get it done. With the Baltimore Orioles sinking each and every day as it seems, this trade is one that could definitely happen before the trade deadline.
The Los Angeles Dodgers lose to the Washington Nationals in the NLCS
There is little doubt that the Los Angeles Dodgers won’t make the postseason. As the season becomes shorter and there are fewer games to be played, the division will soon become a virtual lock for the Dodgers. The Washington Nationals also have one of the best all-around rosters in baseball and are expected to make a deep postseason run as well.
It would be extremely interesting to see a Dodgers-Nationals championship series, as both teams are well-equipped to make it a series to remember. However, it is simply my opinion that the Washington Nationals have a bit of a better roster and will finally make it past the first round of the playoffs.
No matter what happens in the second half of the season, the Los Angeles Dodgers have had a successful season thus far and have captivated the nation’s attention. Be sure to be on the lookout for the Los Angeles Dodgers as the season progresses.
