Since the news was released, there has been no bigger offseason news than when it was leaked that Kyrie Irving does not want to play for the Cleveland Cavaliers anymore. Irving still has yet to release a statement himself on the subject of matter. Since he has yet to do so, there has been speculation upon speculation. Also, he has left several people guessing and considering their futures. Some of these people being the Cleveland fans, some being the Cavaliers front office/new General Manager Koby Altman and last but not least Lebron James has been left guessing about his future due to this desired move.
Right after the news was leaked, it was reported by ESPN reporters that Irving has requested to be traded to specifically either the New York Knicks, San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat or Minnesota Timberwolves. Dion Waiters, a former Cleveland Cavalier now on the Miami Heat, wanted to let Irving know that if he gets traded to Miami the top dog spot will not just be handed to Irving and only Irving. Here is a statement from Waiters from slamonline.com:
“It would help. I’m not against that. Just know there’s an alpha male over there too in myself. I think that’s my biggest thing with everybody, ‘Oh he got irrational confidence…’ Man, I tell everybody, if I can make it from here, I can make it from anywhere. My mom got shot, my dad got shot. C’mon bro, there ain’t nothing that I haven’t seen. Why not? I need that confidence to get through. Every day I need that confidence to get by. It ain’t got nothin’ to do with ball. It’s who I am. It was instilled in me. But you know, there’s an alpha male over there already. If you come there, we can boogie together.”
Irving is not even on another team yet and is clashing with potential teammates. Waiters definitely has received a lot more freedom being on the Miami Heat since no longer playing for Cleveland with the likes of Lebron James and Kyrie Irving. Hardworking Philadelphia native Dion Waiters did not get where he is now for anybody to just declare they want to be traded to his team and be the franchise player and go-to guy. There were other teams on Irving’s list, but Waiters has made it clear that at the very least they will be sharing the spotlight if Kyrie were to be traded to Miami.
