Cleveland Cavaliers guard LeBron James didn’t shy away from expressing his feelings about the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump. The long tradition of championship teams visiting the White House may have come to an end at least for the 2017 NBA Champs.
Golden State Warriors guard, Stephen Curry, recently said, “I don’t want to go”. When asked about visiting the White House. President Trump responded to Curry via Twitter Saturday Morning.
Going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team.Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 23, 2017
Shocking everyone President Trump rescinded his White House invitation for the first time ever. Meeting the President and attending the White House is something that all Championship teams look forward to. Will this tradition end while President Trump is in office?
Shortly after LeBron James took to Twitter to respond to President Trump’s tweet:
U bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ain't going! So therefore ain't no invite. Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!
— LeBron James (@KingJames) September 23, 2017
LeBron states ‘u bum’, referring to President Trump. Lebron also says that going to the White House was an honor before President Trump, indicating that if the Cleveland Cavaliers would have won the NBA Championship they probably wouldn’t have been attending the White House either. LeBron James and Stephen Curry may be rivals on the court but LeBron did not hesitate to defend Curry from President Trump. After the top player in the NBA speaks out about the President you wonder will NBA teams visiting the White House be a thing of the past. LeBron voicing his opinion about the current president has led to other NBA players chiming in.
LeBron voicing his opinion about the current president has led to other NBA players chiming in. Big names such as Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, and Draymond Green also took to Twitter to express how they feel. Bryant questioned how could he possibly make America great again, Paul said that with whats going on in the country should the President be worried about professional sports and Green wondered how he is running our country. Overall LeBron James speaking out about President Trump gave other players the faith to also voice their opinion.
