What is happening in New York? Wins? Multiple Wins? Maybe this could happen to the New York Yankees but certainly not the New York Jets! Every single article in the offseason in relation to the Jets spelled doom. 16 losses, or 15 losses but now the Jets have three wins and were surprisingly close to beating the reigning super bowl champion New England Patriots on Sunday.
No one can believe the Jets are winning outside of Florham Park but there is a cool confidence within the Jets locker room about how they are playing.
“People see we’re a legitimate team,” said tight end Austin Seferian Jenkins after the narrow defeat where he had a career high 8 catches for a deceptive 46 yard and a touchdown. Cornerback Morris Claiborne added “We had so many expectations, coming in to shock the world today, I feel like a lot of people will understand that we’re not going to lay down. We’re going to come out and fight you.”
The Jets have a lot of confidence but now let’s take a look at the next 10 games of the Jets’ season and see how they will fight against the remainder of their schedule.
New York Jets at Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins stunned the Atlanta Falcons this week. The big question is was that the true Dolphins or was it the true Falcons? The Falcons played horrific in that game and still managed to keep it incredibly close. I see the Jets offense having a great bounce back game playing angry after losing to the Patriots and sending the dolphins back to planet Earth.
Prediction: Jets 21 Dolphins 10
Atlanta Falcons at New York Jets
Thanks to the loss to the Dolphins this now becomes an interesting game. Looking at this game week one this was an absolute loss. However now this could be closer than previously thought. I have a feeling though this will be a great game for the Falcons. I think they are going to get destroyed in week 7 by the Pats and then use the Jets as a way to get their offense and defensive troubles out of the way.
Prediction: Falcons 38 Jets 14
Buffalo Bills at New York Jets
If the Jets seriously want to make a chance at the playoffs this is an absolute must win. The Bills got the best of them but that was week one. Everything has changed and the Jets will play their heart out in what should be a chippy game won in the trenches. The Jets just may play well enough to win with a little help from the home turf.
Prediction: Jets 13 Bills 10
New York Jets at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Believe it or not this is the hardest game to pick. The Buccaneers look good on paper but the coaching has been horrible, they’ve been hit by a decent amount of injuries and the only players performing on this team are cast off quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and running back Doug Martin. But then again the Jets are the Jets and could easily find a way to lose this game if they can’t lock down wide receiver Desean Jackson and whoever is starting at quarterback for Tampa come week 10.
Prediction: Jets 24 Buccaneers 21
Carolina Panthers at New York Jets
As opposed to the Tampa game this is an easy one. The Jets struggle to keep Bills mobile quarterback Tyrod Taylor in check, how do you think they will do against Cam Newton? Christian McCaffrey, Kelvin Benjamin, and Super Cam will dominate the Jets, not to mention a decent defense.
Prediction: Panthers 31 Jets 10
Kansas City Chiefs at New York Jets
Another easy one despite the loss the Chiefs suffered to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Alex Smith has been pin point so far this season and has weapons aplenty (if healthy) in Kareem Hunt, Tyreek Hill, and Travis Kelce. A stout defense will also take away any hope for the Jets.
Prediction: Chiefs 42 Jets 7
New York Jets at Denver Broncos
Not sure what to say about this one. If the New York Giants can beat the Denver Broncos shouldn’t anyone be able to? Right? Probably not. I think this is going to be a surprisingly defensive game. The score won’t be high due to the Jets defense steeping up a little bit but the Broncos defense could start all backups and still shut down the Jets.
Prediction: Broncos 17 Jets 6
New York Jets at New Orleans Saints
This is another tough one. Drew Brees is going to have a fun day but the New Orleans Saints defense can’t any offense. I think the Jets’ offense will want to bounce back after being embarrassed by the Broncos and this could turn out as a surprising steal by the Jets. If Todd Bowls coaches this game well by killing the Saints’ running game and Claiborne shuts down wide receiver Michael Thomas who knows what could happen.
Prediction: Jets 31 New Orleans 27
Los Angeles Chargers at New York Jets
The Chargers are even more of a mess than the Jets. They have great players at so many positions but just can’t seem to win. I think the Jets match up well thanks to their over performing offensive line and high completion percentage offense. Jets win this one thanks to Chargers inability to win.
Prediction: Jets 20 Chargers 14
New York Jets at New England Patriots
The Patriots may be playing for home field advantage here or if something goes horribly wrong maybe the first spot in the AFC East (highly unlikely) so I see them playing this game hard and wanting the enter the post season with a lot of momentum. They could kill the Jets on offense and play pedestrian on defense yet still win this game (see Week 6).
Prediction: Patriots 35 Jets 24
Record by end of season: 8-8
