With Manchester United’s inactivity in the transfer market starting to irk certain fans, the week before the team travels to the USA is massively important.
Man United are reportedly close to securing deals for two players in highly coveted positions. Sky Italia have reported that United have reached an agreement with Torino to sign right-back Matteo Darmian. The 25-year-old is expected to make the move to Manchester sometime this week, meaning he could be part of the squad to travel Stateside.
Another player United are hoping to bring to the club is Frenchman Morgan Schneiderlin. A player who can play In Louis Van Gaal’s much favored ’6’ role, the Southampton man will fill a very deep hole in United’s midfield.
With pre-season training just having started, the football is not United’s main concern right now. In fact, nothing they do on the training pitch this week will be as important as the work being done behind the scenes. After finishing fourth last season, it is obvious United needed to bring in some new blood. Executive Vice Chairman of the club, Ed Woodward, now needs to ensure that he can complete deals for these two players before heading across the Atlantic.
Last season, the Red Devils made six signings, with only two of them making it on the club’s pre season tour, also to America. This year, Van Gaal will be looking for a much better structured window. The opportunity to take new players on tour will be invaluable for the Dutchman as he steps up his preparations for the new season.
If United can complete the two deals before they jet off for the west coast of the States, their prospects for next season will rise greatly. Getting used to Van Gaal’s philosophy can take time, as demonstrated last campaign, and the new players will need as long as possible to adjust. Bringing in fresh faces is just the beginning, but it would be the ideal start to a massive season for Manchester United.
