I can’t say I didn’t expect this because I did. The Sooners lost their first game of the season last night @ the VCU Rams. The biggest surprise was that VCU led the whole game, and uh…. you know that Willie Warren guy? Well, they held him to 8 points. All this resulted in an 82-69 Sooner loss.
1st half: The Rams got off to a hot start and after that were absolutely unstoppable and at one point even lead by 17. They were 7-15 from three point range in this half, the Sooners on the other hand, were 2-12. The score at the half was 44-34 in favor of VCU.
2nd half: Jay Gavin of VCU started out the 2nd with a jumpshot and from there it never got any better. The Sooners could never cut the lead to single digits despite great play from freshman Tiny Gallon. The result was the Sooners first loss of the season.
Player of the Game: My player of the game goes to Tiny Gallon(15 points 11 rebounds). He and Tony Crocker were really the only players who looked good out there. They even outplayed Willie Warren, but probably only because VCU’s defense wouldn’t back off of him.
Honorable Mention: Tony Crocker(19 points)
Afterthoughts: Everyone is going to say the Sooners played a horrible game last night. Well, everyone is wrong. It wasn’t that the Sooners played bad(although they didn’t play great) it was that VCU played really good. But, remember it was Jeff Capel who built this VCU team. If he can build VCU up like that just imagine what the future holds for Oklahoma basketball. The Sooners won’t be as good as they were last year this season, however next season watch out for OU.
The Sooners next game is against San Diego in the Great Alaskan Shootout. Due to the early game times( the game against San Diego is at 1:45 A.M. Eastern time) and me being out of town starting Sunday, I will only give a review of the whole tournament and will not do game by game reviews. That’s all for now! See ya next article! Boomer Sooner!
