Toronto Blue Jays: Injuries keep piling up

It was not a stellar week for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Toronto lost three out of four games and the injuries keep coming.

Before I get to anything else, I want to apologize to the readers for an error I made in my last article.  I reported that the Jays had a day off just before Toronto faced the Baltimore Orioles.  To my surprise’ the Jays had to play a game against the Chicago White Sox on what would’ve been Toronto’s day off.  The game was postpone earlier this season and was rescheduled on this particular day.  Again, I apologize for the error.

Now back to the injuries.

There was some  good news for the Jays this week.  Brett  Cecil’s and Colby Rasmus’s injuries are not too serious.  Despite getting hit in the face with a ball last week, Rasmus didn’t suffer any damage.  As for Cecil, he’s suffering from elbow inflammation.

Now, the bad news.

The Jays lost to the White Sox 3-2.  J.A. Happ went five innings, giving up eight hits, three earned runs, three walks, and struck out five batters.

Toronsnto did win the first game against Baltimore 3-2.  Mark DeRosa collected two RBIs.  Starting pitcher, Todd Redmond gave up eight hits, two earned runs, two walks, and struck out two batters.

Bad pitching also plagued the Jays this week.

The Orioles defeated the Blue Jays in the second game 9-5.  Jay’s pitcher, Esmil Rogers had another rough night.  In 4.1 innings pitched, Rogers gave up eight hits, six earned runs, a walk and struck out two batters.

Esmil Rogers says he plans to compete for a rotation spot in 2014.

Speaking of Rogers, I came across an article on bluejays.com with a headline that read “Rogers Plans To Compete For Rotation Spot In  2014.”   Well Esmil.  Judging by your last two starts, your chances of nabbing a spot in next year’s rotation are not good.

The was a positive note in this game.  Catcher,  Josh Thole wnt four for five at the plate and collected a RBI.

The Jays lost the third game 3-2.  Jay’s pitcher Mark Buehrle was pulled after 3.1 innings pitched after he suffered a right calf contusion.

Kyle Drabek also suffered an ankle injury in the Baltimore series by a line drive.  Drabek was diagnosed with a bone bruise.

Moises Sierra was injured too this week.  Sierra is day to day with a sprained left ankle.

The Blue Jays wrap up their season today against the Tampa Bay Rays.
