It’s New Year’s Day in East Lansing, and a group of my closest college friends stare at the TV in disbelief as the Michigan State football team had just completed an improbable 20-point comeback against Baylor to win the Cotton Bowl, 42-41.
High-fives and cheers ring around the room. But when I try to get in on the celebrations, my friends shut me down immediately.
“Screw you, Ryan!” they all say. “You pessimistic piece of crap.”
“Burn the Squanda!”
Worst part about it all, though, is I deserved it.
