As an alumnus of Michigan State University, I like it when I can support my alma mater and a local business at the same time. This is the first of what I hope to be many posts regarding MSU products made by local businesses. If you have a product you’d like me to feature, shoot me an email at [email protected]
I wanted to decorate my youngest kids’ bedrooms with Spartan colors and thought that painting Spartan logos and colors would be fairly easy. Then I remembered that it wasn’t easy and I don’t like painting. So I started looking for some of those Fathead-type stickers, but with an MSU theme.
I ended up finding what I was looking for at Nudge Printing. Nudge Printing was started in 2011 by husband and wife MSU alumni with a goal of providing other State fans with a less expensive alternative for Spartan wall and car decal graphics. Their partnership with Michigan State allowed them to start a true local small business that operates and produces all of their products in East Lansing, Michigan.
In the last 4 years, they have expanded to include State of Michigan — not to be confused with the University of Michigan — and Great Lakes-themed products like decals, fleece blankets, shirts, sweatshirts and other apparel. They’re mostly an online store with a growing popularity in a variety of retail stores, including Campus Den, Campus Street Sportswear, Student Bookstore in East Lansing, Michigan and The Artist’s Pallet in Highland, Michigan. They can also be found at the MSU Arts and Crafts shows on campus.
When I ordered my decals, they arrived in safe packaging:
The Michigan State decals are official Collegiate Licensed Products and the instructions were easy:
My youngest son, Micah, and I had a lot of fun putting the stickers around their room:
We got multiple sizes of the Spartan logo:
And a super-large Sparty! Micah did start to get sick of me taking his picture:
Tip: be sure you know what you are ordering. We ordered some vinyl decals for our basketball hoop — they can be removed with your fingernails or sharp blade but will come apart in pieces and therefore are not repositionable. They are meant to be stuck on surfaces for long periods of time. The wall decals are repositionable: you can stick and re-stick them over and over without leaving a residue behind or damaging the wall. Wall decals are designed to be placed on interior walls or the inside wall in a garage. We tested it out, and they do indeed attach to a wide variety of surfaces, including bed posts:
And even dresser drawers:
The kids had fun putting them on the wall and rearranging them:
Here’s a tip… keep the backing and the boxes if you ever want to store them or move houses:
Nudge accepts MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover, and Paypal as forms of payment and they do all of their designing, printing, and packaging in-house. They also offer a “90-day, 100% Money Back Guarantee” with every decal. I noticed on their website that they are currently offering free shipping on orders of $20.00 or more.
They say on their website that if you’re not happy with their product they’ll refund your purchase. I did not need to use this service. Overall, I’ve been very pleased with my decals from Nudge Printing. I will be using them again and definitely recommend them to other Michigan State Spartan fans.
