Up to this point, the Los Angeles Lakers 2015-2016 campaign has been tough to watch for most fans of the team. But there could be some glimmers of hope that could keep followers of the team engaged throughout the rest of the season. With a promising young core and Kobe Bryant finishing out his career, LA might have something exciting to watch over the next few months.
The struggles of the Lakers this season don’t come as a surprise considering how young their team. A key to watch is how guards D’Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson and forward Julius Randle will finish out the year. All three have shown flashes of potential stardom throughout the year but have yet to put it all together on a consistent basis. The Lakers are likely to get another high draft pick this June and could also be a major player in free agency, so getting their current core enough experience to be ready to step up next season will be a key focus down the stretch.
Of course we can’t talk about the Los Angeles Lakers without talking about the legendary Kobe Bryant. It’s been a unique year for Kobe; missing shots he used to sink with ease; losing games at an historic pace. But through it all, he has felt an overwhelming wave of support from every arena across the league. This last stretch run will be very fun to watch as the Black Mamba continues his farewell tour, concluding with his final game on April 13th against Utah at the Staples Center.
So even in a year that has been very much forgettable, Laker fans could be in for a unique last few months to wrap up the season.
