The Cincinnati Bengals season is beginning to take shape with less than two months to go before training camp. This week resulted in the tying up of a few loose ends for the Bengals. All of the Bengals draft picks have been signed. With the Bengals top draft pick William Jackson signing announced on Friday. Also announced earlier this week a familiar face will be sticking around the Queen City.
Giovani Bernard will be back in a Bengals uniform this season. The running back was signed to a three year extension on Wednesday. Those two stories both help the Bengals as we inch closer to the fall. The Bengals wont have to worry about unsigned draft picks. Instead they can look towards finding out how those draft picks will fit into the roster this year.
Giovani Bernard’s signing puts to rest the question of whether he’s heading elsewhere at least for three years. The Bengals will likely give him more playing time this season. After a breakout 2015 season for Bernard. A season that saw Bernard get 49 catches, racking up 472 yards. Bernard’s signing sets up a showdown between him and fellow Bengals running back Jeremy Hill. A healthy competition to be the most prominent running back on the Bengals squad.
With many asking about the impact that one play will have on Hill’s career. That play was Hill’s fumble in last season’s wild card loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. With that in mind the fans might have tougher expectations for Hill this upcoming season. The Bengals draft picks and re-signing of Bernard also helps the Bengals keep a stable roster going into this upcoming season. Even with the effects that free agency had on the roster.
The Bengals will head into the 2016 season with a mix of new and old faces. How they will impact the Bengals remains to be seen. Yet, this week did a lot to keep the Bengals in stable shape.
