There’s a question on the minds of many Cincinnati Reds fans approaching the All Star break. Which Cincinnati Reds players are the most deserving of a trip to San Diego for the 2016 MLB All Star Game?
Thankfully every team gets at least one player into the Midsummer Classic. Many Reds fans, writers, and baseball experts say the likely Reds All Stars this season will be Jay Bruce, Zack Cozart and Adam Duvall. With this in mind let’s take a more in depth look at these potential 2016 all stars.
Starting with Jay Bruce, a man that could be playing in what many suspect will be his last All Star Game in a Reds uniform. Plus, maybe even his last game in a Cincinnati Reds uniform. Rumors have popped up endlessly about Bruce being traded to multiple teams over the last 13 months. With the trade deadline less than a month away those rumors are intensifying once again. Bruce standouts so far this season for the Reds.
Especially when it comes to the hitting department. Bruce leads the Reds in hits, RBI’s and has the teams highest batting average. However, he doesn’t have the most home runs for the Reds so far this season. That distinction goes to Adam Duvall, with 22 home runs. Duvall’s season can give Reds fans some hope.
Adam Duvall wound up in Cincinnati as a result of the Mike Leake trade. He was one of the new faces at the start of the season. Duvall’s become one of the Reds breakout stars. He’s one of the few new players that people aren’t asking who they are. At least as much as they were in April or May.
Zack Cozart is the Reds third potential all star this season. Cozart is currently second on the team in hitting. He’s in a four way tie for the lead in runs. Cozart has grown over the last few years. In some ways he’s become the most consistent shortstop the Reds have fielded since Barry Larkin.
Ultimately, it’s likely only one of these three players will be an all star this season. Especially with the Reds having a season where they’ve been seeing stars circling around them like an old cartoon character that just got knocked out. Instead of playing like even potential all stars.
