Notre Dame added their second recruit from the 2018 recruiting class when Mike Brey and the coaching staff landed 6’4 shooting guard Robby Carmody. Carmody is ranked as a four-star and is the 74th ranked recruit on ESPNs top 100 recruits. He ranks two spots ahead of other Notre Dame four-star PG commit Prentiss Hubb.
Robby Carmody is a native of Pennsylvania and is a perfect fit for Mike Brey. He is willing to get to the rim and he’s also not afraid to get scrappy underneath the basket for some rebounds much like a Pat Connaughton or Steve Vasturia. Carmody also has the potential to develop a nice long-range shot much like every Mike Brey shooting guard ever. Brey is known for developing players and Carmody is going to develop nicely in Brey’s system. He might not have an immediate impact once he gets on campus, but it will not be long before you know who he is.
As a junior last season Carmody average 26.2 ppg 4.8 apg 12.7 rpg in 23 games of action. Carmody is also a scrappy defender piling up 3.9 spg and .9 bpg.
Notre Dame’s other recruit from the 2018 class Prentiss Hubb and could be in line to take over the point guard role after Matt Farrell graduates after this season. Hubb could possibly be the next four-year PG starter much like former Irish point guards Tory Jackson and Eric Atkins.
Mike Brey might quietly be one of the most underrated coaches in all of college basketball. He has become a solid recruiter and has Notre Dame Basketball near the top of the ACC year in and year out. Getting recruits like Robby Carmody and Prentiss Hubb are going to keep Mike Brey and the Fighting Irish near the top.
