With a recent article on the hottest NHL lines by Hockey Writer’s journalist Matt Larkin, Larkin came up with, surprisingly, an awesome Montreal Canadiens line.
Except this will never happen. At least, not with the Habs’ history of switching lines so frequently.
Ranked 18 out of 31 top lines, this line consists of Max Pacioretty at left wing, Alex Galchenyuk at centre and Jonathan Drouin at right wing. This honestly would be the Habs dream line in their current roster situation.
Claude Julien won’t listen to opinions, but, here’s why this would be the best line for the Habs:
Pacioretty is a pure goal-scorer, keeping up statistics close to Sidney Crosby, Alexander Ovechkin and Joe Pavelski. With Drouin’s talent of being adaptable and mixing up his playing style, the wingers could make some serious magic on the ice.
Then of course, there’s Gally. Gally has always been a tough subject for Montreal, but giving him the chance to play centre, especially with Max and Drouin, could solve any doubts the organization has. It’s been noted several times that Habs general manager Marc Bergevin wanted a top centre since the trade-deadline period.
For some stubborn reason, the organization has looked past Gally, but really he has the tools to be the top centre. He’s young, and can work with strong wingers like Max and Drouin. I think if they could build solid chemistry on ice, they’d be unstoppable.
Julien and the organization more than likely won’t make this happen. But we can dream, right?
