It is finally September, which means that the MLB postseason is right around the corner. There are a few things that are going great for the New York Yankees currently. Recently they took three of four games from Boston, the current AL East division leader. This was a crucial series win for the Yankees in their attempt to draw close to the Red Sox in the division.
Currently, the Yankees are 2.5 games behind the AL East division leaders, the Boston Red Sox. One thing that had boosted the Yankees’ morale was the return of C.C. Sabathia into the rotation. He was on the 15-day DL for a minor injury, and his presence is key in order to keep the team in competition to clinch the Wild Card spot, of course if they can’t end up winning the division by the end of the month.
One more thing that the Yankees should worry about going forward is the strikeout rate committed by the home run hammer Aaron Judge. I hope he can dig down, focus more, and send more fly-balls out of the park, because that’s seems to be the only way he has been able to score lately. His batting average took a dip after the All-Star break.
To describe the current situation, the Yankees are currently leading the American League Wild Card chase with one month left before the end of the regular season. Unfortunately, they’re up by only one game against the Minnesota Twins. They need to have a great series against the Twins because they are right behind the Yankees in the AL Wild Card chase. A sweep would be beautiful in the series because that pushes them so much further ahead of the second place team of the Wildcard chase. In September it gets really heated in the sport of baseball because no one wants their season to end. The Yankees need to keep winning a majority of their series in order to clinch that spot within two weeks.
So obviously there is plenty of intensity in this Wild Card chase, considering the Yankee squad is only leading by one game. If the Yankees want to seal the deal, Aaron Judge can’t strike out as much and needs to lock himself in, the pitching staff needs to keep doing what they are doing and throwing hard, and the new acquisition Todd Frazier needs to focus in and hit the ball hard and get on base.
The Yankees’ upcoming schedule looks very promising though. They have a chance to possibly clinch their division if they keep winning. Out of the past 16 games they have won 11, so they need to keep taking this momentum onto field in order to make it into the postseason.
