There’s no question that the Montreal Canadiens are struggling this season. But has Marc Bergevin been pushing it lately?
It’s true that being patient can go a long way, especially for a struggling team. It’s also true that Montreal has had similar issues in the past and resolved them. But this may be going on for too long.
This has me thinking: will there be another shocking trade in the near future?
Recently the Matt Duchene trade drove the media crazy, and Joe Sakic has stated that this plan had been implemented for awhile. Sakic waited until he could make the trade he needed for the Avalanche, and both Duchene and the Avalanche were pleased with the trade.
I could see the discussion of a big trade being discussed behind closed doors. But who would Bergevin trade? It’s possible Max Pacioretty could be up for the trade with his current contract being up after this season. Or even Alex Galchenyuk, who has been up and down recently with the team and has a contract up until the 2020-21 season.
Either way, if this is something Bergevin is planning, it should be a big trade. As far as I’m concerned there hasn’t been much talk about a potential trade, but it’s definitely something to be thinking about given that Bergevin isn’t making any major moves.
Hopefully if Bergevin is thinking about a big trade that he gets someone good. Maybe not another Antti Niemi would be nice.
