The Charlotte Hornets have struggled throughout the season thus far, and it is essential for the organization to make some changes before the trade deadline. There should only be one true untouchable on the roster and that is Kemba Walker. The Hornets should focus their trade acquisitions around young talent throughout the league to benefit their future as an organization and compliment the play of Kemba Walker.
The Hornets should look to make moves to acquire a player such as Julius Randle. This player has shown time and time again what he is capable of, as well as his potential at such a young age. Julius is currently averaging 13.4 PPG, and 7.0 RPG. With this being said, Julius Randle has the potential to be an outstanding player in the NBA and would benefit the play of Kemba Walker quite well. This is a type of move Charlotte should be looking for.
Secondly, a player that would greatly improve the caliber of the Hornets roster would be Tobias Harris. This should be a prime target for Charlotte in trade talks. Averaging 18.5 PPG, 1.8 APG, and 5.2 RPG, Tobias would be a game changer for a struggling Charlotte roster. Another player at the small forward position that Charlotte should approach is T.J. Warren. T.J. Warren has played at a tremendous level so far throughout the season. Boasting numbers such as 19.6 PPG and 5.6 RPG, this is the type of player Charlotte should do whatever it takes to obtain. As long as it does not affect their superstar Kemba Walker, then all should be well.
Lastly, the Charlotte Hornets in trade talks should be in pursuit of draft picks. Charlotte should be looking to build their future with young talent acquisitions and draft selections. It will be difficult for the franchise to trade familiar faces on the roster, but it is a necessity for Charlotte to clear up cap space that is being depleted by some salaries on the roster. Having a young talented team built to complement their franchise player Kemba Walker is the best route to go for a struggling Charlotte Hornets franchise. If they choose to take this approach before the trade deadline, they surely have a bright future in the NBA’s Eastern Conference.
