The Atlanta offense put together a strong performance against the Los Angeles defense last week. The Eagles have a significantly worse defense and are also playing with a backup quarterback. The Atlanta secondary should be able to shut down the Eagles’ passing game for most of the matchup. The Philadelphia running game could be a problem for Atlanta, but after not letting Todd Gurley beat them last week, Atlanta’s confidence in their run defense is sky high. Matt Ryan and Julio Jones are going to have a monster week together. The Falcons will easily take this one.
Falcons 33 – Eagles 17
The Falcons had the task of facing Todd Gurley and Jared Goff last week on the road, and they were able to shut down the run and force Goff out of his comfort zone. There is no reason they can’t do the same to a much weaker duo of Matt Asiata and Nick Foles. The only difference is that this time they will be playing a tougher defense in a very difficult environment. Atlanta has never fared well in Philadelphia going 1-7 since 2000 in games in Philly. I could very well see that going to 1-8 if only Carson Wentz was still under center for the Eagles. Nick Foles will have a tough time moving down field and Matt Ryan will make just enough plays at the end to pull out a cold slugfest of a game.
Falcons 23 – Eagles 17
There’s been little evidence the Eagles will be able to generate enough offense to have that be the reason they win. Thus, the defense will have to shoulder the load of Julio Jones, Devonta Freeman, and Matt Ryan. The Falcons will be rolling into Philadelphia with confidence after stifling the Rams in Los Angeles. I feel the best two teams currently in the NFC reside in the south. The only reason for the low seeding is the top three teams from that division had to play one another. Twice.
Falcons 27 – Eagles 13
Every time I picked against the Eagles it’s come back to haunt me this season. Every time I picked against them they also had Carson Wentz. Foles hasn’t looked great but the defense has turned it around. If they can get pressure all game, they can win. But I think a few big plays from the Falcons pass-catchers will be the difference.
Falcons 28 – Eagles 24
The Falcons offense has the potential to be explosive, but it’s been inconsistent for most of the year. The Eagles beat the Falcons last year by taking Julio Jones out of the game and running the ball. They’re going to have to do the same thing this time around. This is going to be a close, low scoring game.
