As the saying goes, all good things must eventually come to an end.
On Thursday night, May 10, 2018, the Nashville Predators lost Game 7 in their playoff series against the Winnipeg Jets. It was a blowout loss, with the Jets thrashing them 5-1. With the loss, Nashville has officially been eliminated from the playoffs and are out of contention. Their campaign to return to the Stanley Cup and avenge last years loss is now over, and the off-season begins. In the minds of the fans, the player, the coaching staff and simply everyone involved in the franchise, it has come tragically far earlier than they originally intended it to do so.
At the end of the day, it’s a sad defeat for the Predators to have. They have spent the entire season playing their hearts out in an attempt to avenge last years Stanley Cup defeat. This playoff loss officially stops that dream of theirs dead in its tracks. With that campaign now over, all they can do now is begin to rest in the off-season and prepare for next season when it eventually arrives.
The loss, while sad, is not the end of the line for this team. The future looks bright in my humble opinion. This past season has been a testament to the commitment that the players have to this team. They are willing to give their full effort and make sacrifices in order to get the job done. At the end of the day, they may not have reached their end goal, but they proved that they could do it in their campaign to reach it.
So the question now becomes a rather simple one: what does the future hold for this talented franchise of players? Can they continue the success and dominance they showcased this season, while adding just enough edge to bring the grand prize home to Nashville? Will they just remain a good team that always makes the playoffs but never has that edge to win it all? Or are they doomed to return back to the bottom of the barrel?
If what we saw this year is any indication, the Predators are a smart team that are making improvements where they are needed to be made and solving problems that need to be solved. A loss like this after such a huge season can be devastating. However, if this team can keep their heads up high and maintain their focus on the Stanley Cup, then nothing but success should follow.
