Tennessee added to its 2019 recruiting class today with a big time commit from Chris Akporoghene. The offensive tackle is currently only a three-star recruit, but has only been playing football for two years when his family moved from Nigeria to Tennessee. He transferred high schools to play at the IMG academy in Florida, which is known for its consistent production of star athletes.
Akporoghene had offers from big time programs like Nebraska, Oregon, Texas, Florida, and Auburn. The appeal of playing near home, as well as his connection with former IMG academy coach and current UT running backs coach Chris Weinke.
Even though Akporoghene is a three-star recruit, his ranking could soon be on the rise. Besides big time offers, Akporoghene has done very well at camps against some of the best pass rushers of the 2019 recruiting class.
Pruitt is building a solid offensive line class, now with commitments from Wanya Morris, Jackson Lampley and Akporoghene. The staff is still heavily pursuing Darnell Wright, another 5-star offensive tackle.
While Pruitt doesn’t seem very high on the recruits in the state of Tennessee, he is finding players that fit his mold elsewhere.
