The AFC East Division hasn’t been entertaining for a while as the New England Patriots have been dominating the division by winning the last 15 out of 17 division titles. However, this season may show some competition for the Patriots as teams like the Buffalo Bills and the New York Jets both have young quarterbacks and are ready to prove that they have what it takes to be in the NFL.
1. New England Patriots
The Patriots’ roster has gotten worst due to the losses of Malcolm Butler, Nate Soldier, Dion Lewis, and Danny Amendola. Despite the Patriots losing many players, they still have Tom Brady and Bill Belichick which makes the team remain a title contender. With the addition of the Week 11 bye for the AFC Champions, it gives them enough rest and time for the team to make a late season push as they will be facing 3 playoff teams in the last stretch of their season. The Patriots will be taking home another division title. Book it.
Record Prediction: 11-5
2. New York Jets
Still rebuilding, the Jets are headed to their 8th consecutive year out of the playoffs. On paper, they have one of the easiest schedules in the entire league which should allow them to hang around until December. On top of that, they have high hopes for their drafted quarterback Sam Darnold out of USC. The easy schedule should allow Darnold to play at a good pace and could find himself winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. They will make major improvements as a team but will most likely fail to advance to the post-season this year.
Record Prediction: 8-8
3. Buffalo Bills
The Bills made it to the post-season last year for the first time in 17 seasons, however fell short in the wild card round to the Jacksonville Jaguars. As the team looks forward to improving, it might not be enough to advance to the post-season this time around as their schedule is rough. With their first seven games of the year, five of those are on the road and the Bills haven’t proved enough to be a consistent playoff team yet. Although they did draft Josh Allen in the NFL Draft this year, the Bills have multiple issues they need to address and need to stay healthy. Returning to the playoffs will require a bounce-back second half of the season and it’s unlikely that Allen will lead the way.
Record Prediction: 7-9
4. Miami Dolphins
This team is a pretty big mess and are now considered as the new Cleveland Browns as their front office appears in negative headlines and nothing much is improving. The only positives we can take away from the Dolphins is the fact that Ryan Tannehill is coming back healthy and they did draft Minkah Fitzpatrick. However, this team is not close to the playoffs as they lost star players like Jay Ajayi and Jarvis Landry. A rebuilding season is coming up for the Dolphins and will most likely not advance to the post-season this year.
Record Prediction: 6-10
