The most talked about knee since Nancy Kerrigan is finally healed. It was officially announced Monday that the Philadelphia Eagles have their starting quarterback in action for Sunday’s home game against the Colts. Just over nine months ago, Carson hurt his knee in Los Angeles and now he is ready to step foot on the field for the first time since that infamous Sunday afternoon.
There is no way to describe just how successful Nick Foles while filling in for Carson Wentz. It seems forever ago but when Carson was diagnosed with an ACL tear the entire city of Philadelphia mourned a lost season. The Eagles were flying high and with only two losses it seemed as though all the hard work was going to be lost with a simple ACL tear. Nick Foles, however led the Eagles to the greatest runs in franchise history and as everyone knows by now the Eagles won the Super Bowl trophy with a backup quarterback. Philadelphia forever owes Nick Foles gratitude for giving them memories that will last a lifetime.
Now though it is time to look towards the future. The Eagles sit at 1-1 and are tied with two other teams in the NFC East as the Giants are the only remaining winless team in the division. With the addition of their franchise quarterback, the Eagles are now once again contenders for the Lombardi trophy this year as the NFC seems to be wide open. The Vikings and Packers played to a tie and right now there are only two teams in the NFC that remain undefeated and they are the Rams and the Buccaneers. While the Eagles seemed to struggle to start the season, they are only one game out of the Conference lead.
The early story line for the Eagles is indeed the fact their offense is off to a slow start and even know they added Carson Wentz back to the starting lineup that might not be enough to fix that problem. Although the numbers didn’t show Nick Foles was actually off to a good start. With only one touchdown and one interception people might point fingers at Foles for the slow start but it is the wide receiver position that should worry Eagles fans. Currently this team has three wide receivers on the roster: Nelson Agholor, Kamar Aiken, signed last week, and Shelton Gibson, who has two career receptions. They even just signed their old friend Jordan Matthews to a contract on Tuesday signaling to the NFL that this team is in desperate need of a pass catcher.
This team missed on Josh Gordon and they don’t seem to interested in signing Dez Bryant so Carson Wentz might have his work cut out for him. There are even reports that Jay Ajayi is hurt so bringing in a quarterback that has an ACL tear and asking him to do everything might be to much to ask even if Carson looked like a MVP last year. Questions still surround how Carson will play after his first major injury and questions surround how effective his offense will play with all the injuries already piling up. Right now none of that seems important though considering the Eagles finally have their franchise quarterback back and healthy.
