The Cleveland Browns had a huge choice to make in the 2018 NFL Draft. Sitting at the number one spot, the Browns were faced with a decision to make that would certainly reflect success or failure for the future of the organization. So far, the selection they made looks correct.
In last night’s game, Baker Mayfield, the number one pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, outshined the number three pick. Coming in during the end of the second quarter of the game, down 14-0, Mayfield took over. Slinging the rock left and right, he carried the Cleveland Browns to their first win in a very long time.
Early in the game, Sam Darnold, the number three pick who the Cleveland Browns passed on for Baker Mayfield, looked like he was in complete control. The Jets were cruising and Tyrod Taylor was playing about as bad as you could possibly play.
While watching the game with others, it was clear to everyone that it was time for the Mayfield era to begin in Cleveland. The question was, would Hue Jackson pull the trigger? Would he be willing to sit Tyrod Taylor down, who he has spoken of in the highest regard since he’s been a part of the Cleveland Browns? Well, he didn’t have to make that decision. Tyrod Taylor left the game with an apparent head injury and in came Mayfield. Since that point, Cleveland, Ohio, has been set ablaze.
With the dramatic come from behind victory, the Browns now sit at 1-1-1 and their fans are feeling good. Next week, a decision will have to be made by Hue Jackson on who to start at quarterback. A decision that would have been tough to make prior to last night, now has been made easy. It is Baker Mayfield time.
