What a race on Sunday, at Dover Motor Speedway, in Dover, Delaware. The Monster Mile as it is called claimed many of the round of 12 drivers in the NASCAR playoffs. After going for it all at the Roval the #48 of Jimmie Johnson didn’t have a great start to the race in Dover at all as he had a mechanical failure on his car before the race began, he eventually got back in the race, but was in no way a contender. After the field lined up by points which gave #18 Kyle Busch the pole.
#4 Kevin Harvick dominated for most of the race claiming both stage wins. He led a race-high 251 laps. But his race was knocked off by an issue on pit road. Many other playoff drivers befell incident in the race. #14 Clint Bowyer had a problem late in the race when it looked like #10 Aric Almirola was on his way to his first win since 2014. Almirola’s chance was washed away by the caution. Following final pit stops, #9 Chase Elliott stayed out to claim the lead with about five to go, he had a great restart, but Almirola caused a crash, that ultimately knocked himself, #2 Brad Keselowski, and #88 Alex Bowman out of contention.
The Final restart in overtime looked to be a battle between a pair of drivers who have a shaky history, Chase Elliott and #11 Denny Hamlin. Elliott had a great restart and was able to hold off Hamlin to earn his second win of the 2018 season. The win has huge meanings for Elliott in the playoffs, as it locks him into the round of 8 as NASCAR heads to Talladega.
