With the recent news coming from the Philadelphia Eagles organization that they restructured Fletcher Cox‘s contract it seems that this team has officially hit the panic button. With a 2-3 record and coming off an ugly loss to the Minnesota Vikings, this team needs to figure out what is wrong and how to fix the issues going forward. With a short week entering Thursday night’s game against the New York Giants, Howie Roseman needs to send reinforcements to Doug Pederson in order to maintain some competitive balance.
That is easier said then done as this team is struggling on both sides of the ball. Fans in the city of Philadelphia are pleading for a running back, as Jay Ajayi has been ruled out for the season. It seems though that this team will need more then just a proven running back as they continue to look for answers as they continue to struggle.
Rumors are swirling now that this team has some salary cap flexibility. Le’Veon Bell, LeSean McCoy and David Johnson have been mentioned as possible solutions for the running back position and this team needs to make something happen in order to please a fan base that had high expectations after winning the Super Bowl just eight months ago.
It would be easy for this team to make a trade seeing that they have two Second Round picks available this draft but trading one of this coveted picks seems highly unlikely. While any of those three aforementioned players would make this team better all three come with huge baggage. Bell and McCoy have off the field issues and David Johnson is coming off an entire missed season due to injury. The Eagles might have to play it safe and look at the waiver wire as any of those players might cost this team their future.
It is also important to remember that this team lacks more than just a quality running back. Their wide receivers seem to be dropping to many passes and the struggles on the defensive side of the ball have been well documented. The week four game against the Tennessee Titans saw the defense give up three Fourth Down conversions on the final drive which ultimately gave the Titans the opportunity to win. The Titans took that opportunity and converted on a late game touchdown pass which broke the hearts of Eagles fans all across the world.
This team still has a chance at the NFC East division as they currently are only a half game out due to the ineptitude of their division foes. The Washington Redskins were destroyed on Monday Night football which still gives this team hope. While a roster move or two is likely the front office should not waiver their future for this season as it seems as though this team needs more then just one or two players. Though there is still hope for this season the Eagles should keep their assets going forward and not panic. This season is young and there still is time for this coaching staff to game plan with their current roster. However, a loss Thursday night against their division rival might change that!
