After eight months since reporting for Spring Training, the World Series has finally arrived and will feature two of the MLB’s premier franchises in the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox. The first game will be played on Tuesday in Fenway Park and the road to the World Series haven’t been easy for these teams. The Red Sox won 108 games in the regular season and dismantled a New York Yankees team that won 100 games and the defending champs in the Houston Astros, who had won 103 games. The Dodgers started the season rough with being 10 games under .500 and being 3rd in the division in August. Get ready for an entertaining series as everything is on the line.
The obvious choice for this series would be the Red Sox due to the fact that they’ve been the most consistent and best baseball team in the league for the entire season. They’ve won over 100 games and demolished every team in the playoffs so it doesn’t make sense to bet against them. However, the Dodgers have gone through many challenges and have established themselves as the true underdog in this series. Last year, the Dodgers won 104 games and the Astros made the world series. Many believed that the Dodgers would finish them off in 5 or 6 games, however, the Astros provided an entertaining series and eventually won it in 7. Don’t overlook the Dodgers as they have one of the deepest rosters in the league and easily one of the best offenses.
The Red Sox this time around will probably win the world series. It won’t be a blow-out as it will most likely be a 6 game series. But with the Red Sox just being the most complete team in the league, it’s hard to bet against them. Boston has this season’s most potent offense and will have the luxury of playing 4 games at home in this series. The one weakness that many saw in this team was the bullpen leading up closer to Craig Kimbrel. However, the trio of Joe Kelly, Ryan Braiser, and Matt Barnes has combined for a 0.96 ERA (2 ER in 18 2/3 IP) in the post-season. Baseball is a sport in which the best team doesn’t always win the world series, however, the Red Sox will make sure of it this time.
The AL Champs are batting .370 and have just been on fire as no team in this league have had the ability to compete with this team. The Red Sox are the hottest and best team in the MLB and only time will tell how long they can keep it up. In the post-season, it’s all about momentum and whether or not a team can create winning streaks to put themselves in the best position.
Not only is Boston’s offense is elite, but their outfield defense is just as great. The Red Sox have the best defensive outfield in the game and have three center fielders. Andrew Benintendi in the left, Betts in the right, and Bradley in the center. Bradley may end up winning the gold glove this season and has proven to be a key piece for the team as he saved a game against the Astros in which he made a diving catch with the bases loaded in the 9th inning.
Chemistry will prove to be huge for the Red Sox as well as this team has been together since the Spring Training and have embraced each other a ton. Regular season records doesn’t indicate everything in terms of post-season, but to win 108 games in a long season just goes to show how close this team is together and how they can maintain winning streaks.
Don’t too comfortable if you’re a supporter of the Red Sox because the Dodgers are not a walk in the park. They didn’t particularly play well in the NLCS in their three losses to the Milwaukee Brewers, but that’s what great teams do. They end up overcoming challenges like that and have established themselves as the best team in the NL. They have the most homers in the league and have a deep and versatile bench. They’ll definitely want redemption as losing to the Astros last year in the World Series was disappointing to the Dodgers and it’s amazing that they’re back in the World Series despite having challenges mentally.
At the end of the day, I’ll take chemistry and overall team balance as the winner in this situation. It’s tough to win games in the World Series and all the pressure is on the Red Sox to win it all due to their amazing play for the entire season. On the other hand, the Dodgers are more motivated to win than ever, but could end up falling short to a more ready team in the Red Sox.
World Series Prediction: Boston Red Sox 4, Los Angeles Dodgers 2
