The trade deadline has come and gone, and some big names were moved. There are plenty of fantasy implications, including one guy who could be a league-winner. Here are my thoughts.
Demaryius Thomas fallout- The biggest storyline surrounding this trade has nothing to do with Thomas, and everything to do with Courtland Sutton. The rookie from SMU will now assume a starting role with the Broncos and that is a huge deal. The biggest issue for Sutton has been volume. He has never seen more than six targets in a single game. However, he has averaged 19.1 yards per catch, which is phenomenal. His size makes him a great red zone option in an offense with no tight end to target near the goal line. Sutton should start seeing in the neighborhood of eight targets per game. That already makes him a high-end flex, but add in the quality of those targets, and he is immediately a top-24 guy for me. Sutton has a high ceiling, which is exactly what you should be looking for on the waiver wire this time of year. He should be your unquestioned top priority this week.
As for Thomas, I think he gets a slight uptick. He gets an upgrade at quarterback, but DeAndre Hopkins is going to get the volume in that offense. I wouldn’t view Thomas any differently.
Golden Tate fallout- Again, the ones left behind are the winners. Marvin Jones and Kenny Golladay Should each see an uptick in targets because of this. I think Golladay will be more consistent than Jones, but each are top-24 guys going forward.
Tate takes a hit here. Alshon Jeffery and Zach Ertz are each established in this offense. Ertz especially will hurt Tate because of his connection with Carson Wentz in the short and intermediate passing game. Nelson Agholor could also take away from Tate. I would now take both Jones and Golladay over Tate in Standard, and I would take Golladay over him in PPR.
