Manchester United played AFC Bournemouth this past Saturday, and they were able to snatch a a late goal in the 92 minute to get the important three points. The whole game was back and forth, with United having 18 shots and 52% possession of the ball to Bournemouth’s 18 shots and 48% possession of the ball. The first half was mainly Bournemouth’s game, but come second half, United was able to calm down and win the game.
With a huge shock, Bournemouth opened the scoring of the game in the 11 minute. After having two opportunities saved, Callum Wilson gave Bournemouth the lead after the ball was crossed on the ground where it found Wilson right in front of the goal. He finished his chance with ease. United were able to tie the game in the 35 minute, through their prominent goal scorer Anthony Martial. Ashley Young was breaking down the right side of the field, playing Alexis Sanchez through. Sanchez crossed the ball into the box, where Martial was able to tap the ball into the bottom right corner. Martial has 5 goals in his past 5 games for United, finally getting out of his recent slump. The second half came, and United finally found their footing. They had their chances to score, with one being a free-kick that hit the crossbar, and was cleared from the goal line twice. United found the winning goal in the 92 minute, through their star number 10, Marcus Rashford. Paul Pogba took the ball from midfield, and pushed down the left side of the field. After beating his defender, Pogba crossed the ball into the box directly to Rashford’s chest. He brought the ball down and won the game for United.
There were a couple of key players for United that really helped them get the win against Bournemouth. The United twitter page posted a shortlist of players that should receive the Man of The Match award. The shortlist consisted of: Paul Pogba, Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford, and Anthony Martial. Rashford found the winning goal for United and Martial is always creating goal scoring opportunities with his fast pace. Mourinho had different opinions on who really helped United win. After the game, Mourinho stated that subbing on Ander Herrera in the 56th minute for Fred, was what made United have a chance to win the game. Ander Herrera gave United a balance in the midfield, and they were able to possess the ball better and find the back of the net.
