Indiana remains undefeated in the Big Ten after securing a victory against the visiting Fighting Illini Thursday night with a final score 73-65. Although the team looked sloppy at certain points throughout the game, they were able to overcome those mistakes and take down Illinois. Head coach Archie Miller appears to be finding his groove in Bloomington and the fans could not be happier.
Freshman standout, Romeo Langford led the stat sheet with 28 points in 37 minutes of action. Every game seems to be a step closer to securing his chances of being a lottery pick in next year’s NBA draft if he decides to declare after the season. Langford possesses raw talent that is second to none, but what is shocking spectators is his ability to share the basketball. Although Langford only had three assists on the night, his court vision led to many assists from other teammates. It is that kind of ability that will catapult the Hoosiers into the top of the conference if they can continue to follow his lead.
Langford’s heroic performance was accompanied by senior forward, Juwan Morgan’s double-double. Morgan added 15 points, 10 rebounds and four steals, thereby creating second-chance opportunities for Langford. The power-duo is shaping up to be one of the most dominant two-punch knockouts in all of collegiate basketball. Collectively, Morgan and Langford are shooting .594 from the field across 310 attempts. It should go without saying, but the leadership of Morgan is paying dividends to the young talent on the team. Indiana is continuing to ride out the hot hand but will face a daunting task when they visit Michigan on Sunday.
The Michigan Wolverines are arguably college basketball’s most challenging team, as they reside No. 2 in the country. The Wolverines’ ability to speed up the pace of the game and take commanding leads early on will be difficult for the Hoosiers to surmount. Fortunately, the team has had several days to prepare for this matchup. Miller will prepare the team to the best of his abilities, to minimize any weak spots within the team’s style of play. The Hoosiers will face off with Michigan twice in a six-game span, therefore it is imperative that they come prepared for battle.
The Big Ten conference is stacked with dominant teams, and Michigan is leading the charge. The Wolverines are currently on a 14-game winning streak and remain undefeated on the season. Sunday’s matchup in Ann Arbor will speak volumes to whether Indiana is a legitimate contender within the conference. Be sure to tune-in for action to see if the team has what it takes to knock off No. 2 Michigan.
