Andre Drummond and the Detroit Pistons (26-29) travel to the TD Garden to face Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics (31-25) on Wednesday February 13 at 7:30 pm. The previous matchup between these two teams was on Saturday, December 15, and finished in a 113-104 victory for the Pistons. For the Celtics they were led by Kyrie Irving who had the highest totals in points, twenty-six, rebounds, eight, and assists four. Kyrie was supported by a big game from guard, Marcus Smart who added twenty-one points and eight rebounds. The Pistons’ game leaders were Blake Griffin with twenty-seven points, Andre Drummond with twenty rebounds, and Jose Calderon with eight assists.
The Boston Celtics are making all NBA analysis scratch their heads with their relatively poor standing in the Eastern Conference, fifth. They lost their last two games which were against the Los Angeles teams. In the first game against the Lakers, the Celtics had their hearts ripped out by their old hero, Rajon Rondo, while the game vs. the Clippers was worse. The Celtics blew a twenty-one-point lead at halftime, getting out scored 28-12 and 42-26 in the third and fourth quarters respectively. Making the 123-112 loss even worse was losing Kyrie Irving to an injury with 1:28 left in the first quarter. The Celtics were led by Gordon Hayward with nineteen points, Jayson Tatum with eight rebounds, and big Al Horford with five assists. The Celtics play the Philadelphia 76ers tonight then travel back to Boston for Wednesday’s game.
Detroit has tied their second longest win-streak of the season at four games. Those four games were against Denver, New York, New York, and Washington, and a win would tie the season high of a five-game win streak and would be a great way to end the pre-All-Star break season. The Pistons’ superstar front court, Drummond and Griffin carried them to victory. Griffin nearly had a triple double with a stat line of thirty-one points, nine assists, and nine rebounds. Drummond had a monster game with thirty-two points, seventeen rebounds, and an impressive 80% (8-10) from the free throw line. Newly acquired Piston Thon Maker became a fan favorite already by sacrificing his body with a huge rejection on the new Wizard Bobby Portis. What I mean by sacrificing his body is that he lost his front teeth in the monster block that I really suggest you look up on YouTube. Hopefully the Australian will get some more minutes and maybe he could become a hybrid of Pistons legends, Dennis Rodman and Ben Wallace.
This game could be much different due to the potential absence of injured superstar guard Kyrie Irving, who is suffering from a sprained knee (day-to-day). With Detroit on a high and Boston on a low, the Pistons could steal a game from the Celtics. I would predict Detroit’s starting five as Jackson, Brown, Galloway, Griffin, Drummond and Boston’s as Irving/Rozier, Smart, Tatum, Morris, Horford.I’m going to predict a 110-103 Boston victory.
